Under the cavernous 26-foot ceilings, Cathédrale echoes the vestiges of a concert hall in the East Village. Inspired by the history of Fillmore East, a former music venue once known as the “Church of Roll ‘n’ Roll,” artist Edoardo Tresoldi’s wire mesh sculpture leaves a ghostly footprint of the venue as a tribute to the legendary cultural background that influenced not only New York’s culture but generations worldwide. Theatrical drapes frame the ethereal sculpture as diners dine below.
At the bar, catch a flash of neon from signs of former famous local venues above the irregular, angled bar. Worn plaster walls are inspired by the marks left when advertising posters are stripped away. An amber glow permeates the space from the warmly lit back bar and copper tones of the open kitchen in the intimate bar lounge. Hidden in the back, the private dining room immerses the guests in vintage concert posters on the ceiling and walls along a backdrop of psychedelic back-lit silk screen frames.
